The Not-So-Secret Life of a Teenage Mom…

I’m the type of girl who, even though I look like I shoved a soccer ball under my shirt, wants to look good while pregnant. That’s where rockstarmoms.com comes in.

On the front page of the site, there is a speaker that plays the sound of a baby’s heart. Or at least that’s what i think it sounds like. Fade out to a pregnant woman holding a guitar.

When you enter the site, there are many different items to catch your interest. My favorite would have to be the Floating Baby shirt.

A lot of the shirts are centered towards, yep, you guessed it! Music. But not just any music. Good music. Shout out your love of music, and your love of your unborn child in one shot!

Be chic AND pregnant at the same time!

i would have to give this site four thumbs up. Two from me, and two from Jordan.

{July 24, 2008}   Baby-gaga.com

In the early days of my pregnancy, i, like any other technologically inclined young mom, surfed far and wide on the web to try and find a site user friendly and informative enough to suit my needs.

What i found was this wonderful site. Baby-gaga.com is a plethora of information from moms all over the world, gathered into one central place.

The forums are highly informative, and members are able to answer any question you might have. Topics in the pregnancy section range from trying to conceive, to teen pregnancy, to baby names, to suffering and loss. Topics in the parenting section range from post partum issues, to teen parenting, to parenting of all ages.

You can create your own profile, and “Parent-tank” other members that you would like to keep in contact with, as i did, or you can just watch the forums for topics that interest you. There are so many options on this site, and its all very user friendly.

An option that everyone on the site really likes, is the ability to have a due date buddy. It is so much nicer to be able to compare symptoms, and crazy thoughts that you might have, than to be alone and wonder if your going physco, or if its just the pregnancy.

One of my favorite options was the ability to easily and quickly create a pregnancy ticker, or countdown. All you have to do is enter your EDD, pick the background, and pick if you want factual, or humorous.

Here is what mine looks like:

I personally like the humorous ones. They tie in quite nicely with how i actually do feel that week!

I highly recommend Baby-gaga.com to any one out there looking for more information. Theres even dad’s on this site!

{July 24, 2008}   The taste of Tang.

Whats the first thing that comes to mind when you think Tang?

For me, its to sugary, to orange-y, and all around nasty.

So its no wonder that when my mom told me that the orange drink that i was going to have to drink tasted like tang, i immediately threw up a little bit in the back of my mouth.

When you hit twenty eight weeks in your pregnancy, you get the wonderful (wonderfully nasty) Glucose test, to check for gestational diabetes. They tell you to drink this orange, clear, or lime drink, as fast as you can mind you, and then come to the doctors office no more than forty five minutes after you’re done with the drink.

Orange drink

Orange drink

Why?

Because exactly an hour after you’re done with the drink, they have to draw blood. Also not one of my favorite activities.

Don’t think that your in luck if you have no history of diabetes in your family. Every pregnant woman gets tested.

My aunt Robin had gestational diabetes in her last pregnancy. I watched her several times check her blood sugar and give herself insulin.

Now I dont know about you, but i am not such a big fan of needles. They scare me quite a bit. (Don’t ask me how i made it two years on Depo-Provera.)

I am hoping beyond hope that i pass this test next week.

Otherwise I am at risk of going into diabetic shock, because i was to scared to check my blood pressure.

{July 23, 2008}   In the beginning…

So I suppose I should start off by introducing myself.

Life after high school is not at all what I expected it to be. I think I actually MISS high school. I guess I liked the routine it gave me.

I live by the adage that everything happens for a reason, even if that reason is not made perfectly clear to you.

I’m your typical 18 year old, except for one small catch.

I’m seven months pregnant. But I couldn’t be happier. I am expecting a baby boy at the end of October, whom I am planning to name Jordan Zachary Roger. It is tradition on my fathers side of the family to have two middle names, so Roger is after my grandfather.

Family and friends mean the world to me. The people in my family that I am closest to are probably my Mom and my sister Candace. They both give me so much useful advice that i have no idea what i would do with out them.

Music is my life. We all have a central beat. Apart, we’re a cacophony of sounds, but when we’re together, we can make the most beautiful music you have ever heard.

I live in a small town in North Central Minnesota, but I have big city ideals and beliefs. I can be very controversial, and I AM very opinionated. I’ve been told i fall on the liberal side of things, but i don’t classify myself as a Democrat or Republican.

I tend not to care what a lot of people think about me.

I will most likely update once a day if not more.
